48 hours as a Ferrari driver

Jerez de la Frontera, 2 December 2009 – Talking to the media who are here for these three unique days of testing for young hopefuls with their sights set on Formula 1, Jules Bianchi was bubbling with enthusiasm immediately after his time on track: “I am happy, even if at the start, my heart was beating very fast and I found it hard to accept that I was sitting in the cockpit of a Ferrari.” There was a great deal of interest surrounding the young Frenchman’s debut at the wheel of the F60 and the driver himself felt his stint as a Ferrari driver had gone well. “It’s impossible to describe exactly what it feels like to be part of the Scuderia, even if it’s just for 48 hours.

I learned a lot, including what it means to go through a debrief facing fifteen engineers, given that I’m used to talking to just one person at the end of a session.” What impressed Bianchi the most was the power of the engine, along with the braking going into corners and the fact these could be taken at great speed, only braking at the very last moment. “Running with a heavy weight on board helped me understand what awaits me next year: winning in GP2 is my main aim, although I won’t easily forget this experience and the preparation required to make it into the world of Formula 1.

To the young guys driving tomorrow, I would advise them not to go looking for the limit straight away, but to let the team guide them, given that those of us who still have a long way to go can learn so much from them.”

Mission accomplished for Bianchi

Jerez de la Frontera, 2 December 2009 – Jules Bianchi has just finished his stint at the wheel of the F60 at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit. The young Frenchman drove for Scuderia Ferrari for two days at the Andalusian track, along with other teams, as part of an important initiative, aimed at giving talented youngsters the chance to get to grips with a Formula 1 car. For two days, he carried out a busy programme, as part of the famous Maranello team. Lap times – he was ninth in 1.20.586 – meant little when compared to the overall experience. “I know I wasn’t particularly quick, but running in race configuration meant I was able to learn a lot. With the help of the team, I got to understand the car, especially its handling when running consistent lap times, which seemed really positive to me.” With over 900 kilometres under his belt, Bianchi now hands over the F60 cockpit to three more youngsters. Tomorrow’s testing will see the first three finishers in this year’s Italian Formula 3 Championship driving the car. This is part of an initiative set up in 2008 with the CSAI and it means that the Italians, Daniel Zampieri and Marco Zipoli and the Mexican, Pablo Sanchez Lopez will each get their turn at the wheel of the car that competed in this year’s Formula 1 World Championship.

Testing at the Jerez circuit

Second day of testing for Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit, which is hosting a test session aimed at young drivers.

Once again today, the French driver Jules Bianchi was at the wheel, continuing with the task of getting to understand a Formula 1 car. Jules ran in race configuration the entire day, completing a total of 113 laps, the quickest in a time of 1.20.586, adding up to a total of just over nine hundred kilometres over these two days.

Testing continues at this circuit tomorrow. Taking turns on the track will be the top three finishers of the Italian Formula 3 Championship – the Italians Daniel Zampieri and Marco Zipoli and the Mexican, Pablo Sanchez Lopez – as part of an initiative established in 2008, in collaboration with the ACI-CSAI.

Bianchi makes red debut in Jerez

Jerez de la Frontera, 1st December 2009 – December has got underway with the first of three days of Formula 1 testing aimed at young drivers, at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit. Running alongside the other teams on the Andalusian circuit, Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro’s F60 was today entrusted into the hands of the young, but already experienced Frenchman, Jules Bianchi, who recently took the Drivers’ and Teams’ titles in the Formula 3 Euroseries, driving for ART Grand Prix. The twenty year old from Nice, who has been driving karts since the age of three in a family run team, is the latest in a long line of racing champions. He completed 91 laps, setting the fifth fastest time of the day in 1.19.626. There to help as he tackled this new adventure was Andrea Bertolini, the Ferrari test driver who is in Jerez specifically to offer invaluable advice and help the young drivers during this session. Bianchi was pleased with his debut at the wheel of the F60. “I am really proud to have made my Formula 1 debut at the wheel of a Ferrari, for the greatest team in the world. At the start, I was being careful not to make any mistakes, then once I felt confident, I pushed harder. The team spirit here is incredible and I hope I have made a positive impression on them and I want to do even better tomorrow.”

Bianchi is back on track tomorrow for his second and final day of this test session.

Today a private test session, the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro dedicates to young drivers, started in Jerez de la Frontera in the South of Spain.

The session’s programme included for today the debut of Jules Bianchi behind the wheel of a Formula 1 single-seater. The young Frenchman, part of the group of Ferrari drivers, went on the track for a total of 91 laps, driving the fastest in a time of 1.19.626.

The tests will proceed tomorrow, again with Bianchi on the track.

Bemvindo Felipinho!

Maranello, 1 December 2009 – Finally Felipinho is here! Felipe and Raffaela Massa’s son was born yesterday late afternoon at 6:27pm local time at Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein hospital. The boy weighs 3.370 kg with a height of 49 centimetres: he and the mother are doing fine.

From Jerez, where the Scuderia is busy with the three test days with the young drivers, the team sent their congratulations for the newborn in the name of all Ferraristi, as you can see in the photo.
